Michael Ashby Obituary

Michael Dean Ashby, of Monroe and formerly of the Marion and Clare area, passed away on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at his home. He was 72.

Michael was born on August 6, 1951 in Clare, Michigan to John Richard and Beatrice Leah (Overholt) Ashby. He answered the call of duty serving in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War era. Michael spent his career working as an welder for pipe fitter union, Local UA 430 until his time of retirement. He could often be found at home watching the X-files with a cup of coffee in his hand. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing solitaire. Michael loved to drive around in his truck listening to Johnny Cash. 

Michael is survived by his loving children, Samantha Marchese of Azle, Texas and Jerold Ashby of Kalamazoo, Michigan; grandchildren, Jerold Jr. "JJ", Wade, Michelle, Matthew, Shyanna, Noah, Jack, Liana, and Liam ; many great-grandchildren; siblings, Sally, John, Dave, Pat, Janet, Calvin, Brenda, and Arthur; several nieces and nephews; and many other loving family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Beatrice Ashby; two sons, Andrew Glenn Ashby and Michael Wade Overholt Ashby; and a brother, Douglas Ashby.

A committal service will be held at a later date in the spring at Middle Branch Township Cemetery in Marion.
