Michael Lee Stump, resident of Cadillac, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, February 13, 2025. He was 70.
Mike was born on March 17, 1954 in Lincoln, NE and was adopted by Walter and Evelyn Stump shortly thereafter. Mike spent his early years in Holt, MI and Kalamazoo, MI graduating from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1972. Mike relocated to the Cadillac area in 1975, where he married Sue Ann Benninger in 1980. Mike and Sue enjoyed over 40 years together while welcoming their children, Michael C. and Matthew.
Mike enjoyed the outdoors and any hobbies that would keep him there. He loved to sail RC airplanes; leading multiple clubs and organizations while organizing National contests in the 90’s. That love was replaced by Disc Golf in recent years, turning into a self-described addiction to the sport. Mike enjoyed competing seriously on the Senior disc golf circuit and would just as much enjoy a friendly game with new friends.
Mikes many occupations included stints as County Commissioner, small business owner, and many years as the announcer of Viking Football and Basketball games on local radio. Over the past 30 years you would find Mike refereeing and umpiring High School Sports in the Cadillac area. He celebrated nearly 30 years as a MHSAA official in the Cadillac area.
Mike is survived by his children; Michael (Ashley) Stump of Hudsonville, MI and Matthew (Brynhild) Stump of Sandefjord, Norway along with three grandchildren; Dylan, Evelyn, and Signe Margaret. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter & Evelyn Stump.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025 from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. at Hitesman-Holdship Funeral Home in Cadillac.
