Mohamed Ashraf “Ash” Abou-El-Seoud, of Cadillac, passed away on Friday, January 24, 2025 peacefully at home. He was 67.
He was born on August 9, 1957 to Mohamed Osman and Seham Abou-El-Seoud in Cairo, Egypt. He would say when he was born, you could see the Nile out of one window and through the other window you could see the Pyramids. On February 17, 1980, he married Debra Turner in Lansing, Michigan. The family later relocated to Cadillac for Ash’s work through K-mart where he fell in love with northern Michigan. After retirement he was a substitute teacher who found purpose connecting with his students.
Ash was a loving husband, proud father, Gido, and fierce and loyal friend. He always showed up for his friends and family. He loved putting a smile on people’s faces and his stories always lit up a room. Ash enjoyed the outdoors and spent time fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, camping, and building the biggest bonfires possible. He enjoyed blasting his music, and could often be found listening to Bob Seger on full volume. Never one to sit down, he found every project he could possibly start but rarely finished. Above all he cherished time spent with the people he loved most, and made it a point to constantly surround himself with family and friends.
Ash is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Debra Abou-El-Seoud; children, Sherief (Cortney) Abou-El-Seoud, Seham “Susu” (Jaycob) Willis, Kareem (Kristen) Abou-El-Seoud, and Sonya (Zack) Atkins; grandchildren, Ayden, Issac, Emmalina, Jayce, Kinsley, Connor, Griffin, Declan, Kian, and Ronan; brothers, Shamel (Fofo) Abou-El-Seoud, Alaa (Evi) Abou-El-Seoud, Easam Abou-El-Seoud; numerous nieces and nephews; and many other loving family members and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mohamed and Seham Abou-El-Seoud; and in-laws, Paul C. and Barbara Turner.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, January 31, 2025 from 1pm until 4pm at Hitesman-Holdship Funeral Home in Cadillac. Donations in Ash’s memory can be made to the Wonderland Humane Society (Cadillac).
