Murt Palmer of Lake City passed away Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at her home. She was 88 years old.
Murt was born August 20, 1933 in her family home in Moorestown to Ernie and Margaret Kobiska.
A Lake City High School graduate, Murt excelled in school, graduating while only 16 years old. During this time of her life she loved country music and round dancing in Nellsville where her mother frequently took her brothers (Bill and Basil) and her. It was there Murt caught the eye of a military-clad Carl Palmer, stating it was ‘love at first sight’. The whirlwind courtship resulted in the couple marrying on July 8, 1950.
During their marriage, work and other responsibilities sent the young couple to various location of the country where their first child, Bill was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado. While raising their young son, the couple eventually moved to the Grand Rapids area where their set of twin boys, Don and Ron, were born. With three children under the age of 3, the family then moved to their hometown of Lake City where they resided.
Once the Palmer boys were of school age, Murt went to work for the late Dr. Dean Seger in his office in Lake City. She loved her years as a registrar and receptionist.
The call of the LORD guided the family to the Methodist Church where they all were baptized and were regular congregants. In her later years, Murt was called to St. John Lutheran Church with her regularly enjoying Sunday worship and fellowship with friends. She grew active for quite some time in the local Senior Citizens group, as well as enjoyed the company of other voracious readers who gathered in the local library.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Carl of 51 years and her brothers, Bill, Jay and Herb.
Survivors include her brothers, Basil (Ethel) of Lake City, and Wayne (Sandra Potter) of Lake City, her sons, Bill (Sandra) of Alpena, Don (Deb) of Pentwater and Ron (Dawna) of Gaylord, nine grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends and her special hairdresser, Diane Helsel-Redman.
Services for Murt will be 1:00 pm on Monday, September 13, 2021 at the St. John Lutheran Church in Lake City with Rev. Russell Logston officiating. A time of visitation will begin at 12 noon until service time. Burial will take place in Lake City Cemetery.
The Palmer Family wishes to thank all who sent condolences and provided needed services including the Lake City United Methodist Church for the luncheon and Dick and Susan Young from the Young-Holdship Funeral Home. Words of comfort and memories may be shared online at www.holdshipfuneralhomes.com.
