Cadillac - Nancy Lou Smith, of Cadillac and formerly of Massachusetts and Maine, passed away on Monday, July 2, 2018 at Munson Healthcare's Cadillac Hospital. She was 79.
Nancy was born December 10, 1938, in Maysville, Kentucky to Lewis and Bessie Katherine (Rowland) Robbins. She met the love of her life during her undergraduate work at Union College eventually entering into marriage with Robert Smith, who preceded her in death. Nancy graduated with her Master's in Theology, from Boston College.
She was strong in her faith and conviction. Nancy had a thirst for knowledge and vivacious appetite for justice. She was an advocate for many, and was able to take her passion for people and Christ into many roles with the Methodist Church. Nancy served as Coordinator of Adult Education and Spiritual Life in Westborough, MA., and as a Provisional Deacon before becoming ordained as Full Deacon in Reading, MA at the Old South Church. Nancy served her congregation for several years while using her talents to complete and publish her book "Workplace Spirituality". She was a current member of Cadillac United Methodist Church, where she continued her ministry often caring for her friends and neighbors at Harborview.
Nancy is survived by her loving family; her sons, Dave (Leanne) Smith of Beverly, MA, Dan (Maggie) Smith of Cadillac; four grandchildren, Laura, Patrick, Hanisi and Hefrani Smith; her beloved companion, Willy; as well as many other loving family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
Memorial services celebrating Nancy's life will be held at United Methodist Church of Cadillac at 11am on Saturday, July 14, 2018, with visitation for family and friends one hour prior. Officiating will be Rev. Thomas Ball. Her cremated remains will be laid to rest out East at a later date.
