Nora Elizabeth (Overholt) Ashby, beloved daughter, sister, aunt, mother and Gram, died on December 7, 2025 at 92 surrounded by her family at her son's home in Hudson, MI. Nora was born in Marion at her grandma Eva and Grandpa Jess Sharp's home on Clark Street.
Nora was born on October 9, 1933 to her parents, Warren and Pearl (Sharp) Overholt. She had four sisters. Nora married Albert "Abe" Ashby on October 27, 1951 at the Community of Christ in Flint and spent 70 years together until Abe's passing on March 1, 2021. Nora had seven children, Vivian, Dennis, Timothy, Richard, Peter, James and Anthony.
Nora is preceded in death by her parents, Warren and Pearl Overholt; mother-in-law, Linda (Matzke) Ashby; sister and brother-in-law, Beatrice and John Ashby; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and David Loomis; sister-in-law, Virginia (Ashby) Partridge; brother-in-law, Harold (Eva) Ashby; brother-in-law, Frank Ashby; brother-in-law, Edwin ("Skip" Ball; husband, Albert "Abe" Ashby; sons, Richard and Anthony Ashby; grandchildren, Austin, Mason and Riverann.
Nora is survived by her sisters, Linda Overholt (Gary Too Fitzgerald) and Ruthann (Overholt) Ball; children, Vivian (Ashby) Doran, Dennis (Claudia) Ashby, Timothy (LaurieAnn) Ashby, Beth (Larry) Ashby-Hummel , Peter Ashby Sr., James (Gidget) Ashby, and Deana Ashby; atleast 76 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Nora was a member of Marion Community of Christ and participated through the years as a Sunday School Teacher, youth leader, historian and member of the women's department. She enjoyed her family and took care of many of her grandkids, nieces and nephews/ She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and especially genealogy. Nora and her husband, Abe, retired to Tularose, New Mexico from 1998 until 2021.
Nora decided to have a Celebration of Life on October 12, 2025 as her funeral to say her goodbyes in person (approximately 125 people in attendance). She was grateful some of her classmates were able to come. A lot of family and friends were able to attend, some coming from Maryland and North Carolina. She enjoyed the music played by the Tim Mitchell Band.
Heartfelt thanks go out to those who contributed to make the celebration succeed. Nora will be laid to rest in the spring of 2026 with a graveside service to be announced at Middle Branch Township Cemetery on 14 Mile Road in Marion, together with her husband Albert "Abe" Ashby at the same time.
