Otto E. Schunemann was born November 1, 1940 in Mt. Clemens, Michigan. Red, (as he was often called by family and friends) passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on May 17, 2022 in Jeffersonville, Indiana.
Otto liked to tell stories of his formative years, walking to school up-hill both ways, when in truth he used to get time off to help bring in the harvest, while finding time to do a bit of car racing. He somehow found time to woo and later marry Carol Radermacher, February 24, 1962 in his hometown.
Otto worked as a telecommunication engineer, but always found time for family, friends and hobbies. His activities over the years included woodworking; making cutting boards to hope chests, developing young men as Scout Master, regaling the story of the fish that got away, to hunting where the rack was always “this big”.
Red loved to be a pyro-technician and spent many years delighting people with fireworks over the 4th. When he was not working on doing one of his hobbies, you would find him serving his community as Fire Department Chief.
Otto spent his later years as part of the Michigan Gold Wing Association, riding long past the norm. He was a voracious reader, watched Nascar on Sundays and would never turn down the opportunity to play euchre. His love of life will be greatly missed.
A loving family survives him: son: Brian (Tina) Schunemann, daughters: Cheryl (Jack) Dykstra, Deborah Lubbers, Erica Ulrich and his grandchildren: Cory, Taylor, Sydney, Kristian and Bryce.
Memorial services will be held 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at the Young-Holdship Funeral Home in Lake City with Pastor Steve Boven officiating, with visitation beginning at noon.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Catholic Charities.
