Owen Lloyd Obituary

Owen H.T. Lloyd lived a life of devotion; to his family, country and community. Owen’s story took flight on August 3, 1941, when he was delivered into this world to his parents Dr. Kathleen M.E. Lloyd and David P.C. Lloyd, D.Phil., ready to serve. His strength, humor, and steadfast commitment to protecting others defined him throughout his 84 years until his passing at home on November 3, 2025.

Owen was a man of quiet perseverance. A Vietnam veteran, he served our country with great pride for 20 years in the United States Air Force. A graduate of Bordentown Military Institute, he earned his degree in Electronics Engineering from the Community College of the Air Force while in the service. His sense of duty did not end with his military service; it was woven into the fabric of who he was. Whether through his work, helping a neighbor, or lending a hand, Owen found purpose in standing guard over the people in his life, ensuring the comfort and well-being of those around him. Even after his vision failed, his protective spirit never dimmed. Owen served his community on the Wexford County Airport Board, the Zoning Board of Appeals in Cherry Grove, teaching snowmobile safety as a member of the SnowPilots in Kinross, MI among other examples. His professional life reflected the same leadership as a Depot Director at Sharp Electronics, a Master Control Operator at TV 9&10 and serving as President of the National Association of Broadcast Engineers and Technicians. Throughout his careers he was known as a man of integrity, precision, and deep loyalty.

Owen enjoyed trips to the local sportsman’s club with Hersel Wing and found camaraderie in the world of amateur radio. Now a silent key, his call sign may be quiet, but his voice and humor will echo forever in the memories of friends, the radio club and his family at Grace Community Bible Church. His wit remained sharp to the end - when his wife Lil remarked, “You crack me up,” Owen quipped back with a grin, “I don’t see any cracks.”

Owen joins in heaven his mother, father, and father-in-heart Don Sheldon; his sister, Dr. Marion Lloyd Talbot; and his brother, Evan E.M. Lloyd. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 20 years, Lillian Sheldon Lloyd; son Carlyle L. Lloyd; daughter Ramona M. Lloyd Ph.D. (Raymond); grandchildren Stephen, Jeremy and Chuck Labuda: brothers-in-law Rex, Eddy, George and Chuck Sheldon, and many friends who became family through shared laugher, loyalty and love.

Owen’s life was a reflection of dedication, humor, and resilience. Those who knew him will carry his example, and his one-liners, with them always. Now that he is at peace, his spirit soaring again, his voice is carried heavenward on eternal frequencies. His mission here complete, Owen is now cleared for final takeoff.
