Paul J. Harmon, age 93, of Prudenville passed away on Tuesday December 24, 2024 at home surrounded by his loving family.
Paul was born on October 28, 1931 in Detroit, Michigan to Floyd and Alma (Cooper) Harmon. As a young boy Paul had a paper route, which made his siblings envious as he always had money in his pocket. Paul was handy building his own bike with parts that he would find in the alley on his way home from school. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War, and was stationed in Hawaii. Paul met the love of his life Joyce Rentz and the couple were married on January 11, 1957. He retired from Detroit Edison where he was a lineman for 38 years.
The couple bought a cabin in Houghton Lake and enjoyed coming up and spending time with his aunt & uncle and eventually their own children. The Duck Inn and Spikehorn were their favorite places to go. Eventually the couple moved to their dream home in Prudenville after retirement. Paul always did all projects himself. Paul was active at the variety of church functions with his wife, he was a former member of the Houghton-Higgins Lake Elks Lodge. He would help Joyce with Cub Scouts, and judged the PineWood Derbies. Paul enjoyed reminiscing about his childhood in Detroit, meeting his wife, and his 55 Ford. He enjoyed sitting by bonfires, playing pool in the basement, and having a cold beer. He also enjoyed playing solitaire, sudoku puzzles and cribbage.
Paul is survived by his children; Patrick Harmon and James (Diane) Harmon, grandchildren, Kelly (Eric) Beste, step-granddaughter; Jennifer (James) Bruder, great grandson; Conor P. Harmon, step-great grandchildren; Susan and Nathan, daughter-in-law; Audrey, and several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sons; Brian and Daniel Harmon, sisters; Julia and Virginia, brother; Bob.
