Pete Tsonakas, of Lake City, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2025, at the Munson Hospice House in Traverse City, Michigan.
Pete was born on January 6, 1952, in Detroit, Michigan to Theodore and Georgia (Karales) Tsonakas.
Pete loved being outdoors, had a passion for anything with a motor, and could fix just about anything. He also enjoyed trips to the casino and spending time with the people he loved.
Pete was preceded in death by his sister, Carnation Tsonakas-Andary. He is survived by her husband, Oscar Andary; his cousin, Cheryl Cantillon, and her family; and his aunt, Helen Catsimpiris.
Pete was a proud and loving Papa to Landon and Wyatt O’Brien, and a devoted dad to Krista O’Brien and her husband, Kevin. He shared many wonderful moments with them that will be deeply cherished.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at the Young-Holdship Funeral Home in Lake City, Michigan, with Reverend Father Ciprian Streza officiating according to the traditions of the Greek Orthodox Church. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow at the Lake City Cemetery.
The family finds comfort in the Orthodox prayer, “May his memory be eternal” (Αἰωνία ἡ μνήμη).
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Amercian Heart Association in Pete’s honor.
