Raymond N. Hamlet Jr., 95, passed away peacefully at home on December 11, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Ray was born on July 5, 1929, in Allen Park, Michigan, to Raymond and Priscilla Hamlet.
He married the love of his life, Helen Mills, on August 2, 1950, in Hazel Park, Michigan, and together they shared a beautiful life filled with love and devotion.
In the late 1950s and early 1960s, Ray and Helen managed the Missaukee Mountain Ski Area, creating cherished memories and fostering a love for the outdoors.
Ray was a gifted woodworker and inventor who found immense joy in his workshop, where he taught his family the art of woodworking and inspired creativity. His passion for building and improving designs left a lasting legacy, particularly through his work remodeling many businesses in Lake City.
From the 1970s until his retirement in 1988, Ray worked at Ray’s Standard Service, where he was known for his dedication and skill.
Family was at the heart of everything Ray did. His motto, “It’s all about family,” guided his life.
He took great pride in his three sons, their spouses, his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; loving them unconditionally and selflessly every day.
Ray is survived by his sons, Mike (Kelley), Bill (Sarah), and Tim (Kelly) Hamlet; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and his sister, Deniece Monroe.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Helen Hamlet; his parents, Raymond and Priscilla Hamlet; his brother, Bob Hamlet; a granddaughter; and a great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at the Calvary Baptist Church in Lake City, with Pastor Brian Algie officiating. Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will take place in the Lake City Cemetery
Memorial contributions in Ray’s honor may be directed to Missaukee Mountain Ski Area in Lake City, Michigan.
Ray will be remembered for his playful humor, his incredible warmth, ingenuity, and unwavering commitment to his family. His legacy of love, craftsmanship, and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
