Raymond Mills Obituary

A wonderful man left us the morning of Sunday, May 18th. His passing was as he wished, peaceful, at home, his wife Phyllis with him. A beloved husband, father, brother, uncle,
grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. Dedicated churchman and golfer, emphasis on golf.
A game he played skillfully, with passion and affection, and as often as he could until very recently.
He was born the middle of five children, affectionately known as the Fab 5. An amazing athlete his entire life: he was selected for the All-State Michigan High School baseball team (who won!),
and was inducted into the Sexton High Sports Hall of Fame for football (state champs!), and he played pro ball for the Washington Senators.

After this adventure, he enlisted in the US Marine Corps- Camp Lejeune and Parris Island. After meeting and marrying Gwen, it was back to Michigan to begin studies and eventual graduation at Michigan State. After starting their family with the birth of their firstborn, Eric, an entire lifetime career as a civil engineer at DuPont began. The young family lived, worked, and made many lifelong friends in several new hometowns. First in Aiken, South Carolina, where son Robb was born, Aiken, as it happens, the place where Gwen grew up. Then Wilmington, Delaware, then Montague, Michigan, where daughter Julie arrived and Eric finished high school. Then Antioch, California, where Robb finished high school. Then Corpus Christi, Texas, where Julie finished high school. After retirement from Dupont, Ray and Gwen moved back to Northern California, where, sadly, she passed in early 1994.

By the next year Ray was back in Michigan, married to Phyllis Kaser, also the mother of three grown children, and settling in for the next adventure: 30 happy years at Higgins Lake filled with family, sister, brothers, their spouses, and many much-loved nieces and nephews! He always said he was lucky enough to have two wonderful families, first with Gwen, then with Phyllis.

Survived by his loving wife, Phyllis. Their children: Eric (Annie) Mills, Robb (Rick) Mills, Julie Mills Denny, Pam (Ian) Kaser, Vaughn (Marian) Kaser, predeceased by Marc Kaser, Martha Kaser.
Survived by their grandchildren: Ian (Jamie) Mills, Jordan Denny, Sydney Kaser, Sam (Brett) Kaser, Ian (Mirjim) Kaser, Elliott (Ryan) Kaser. Their great grandchildren: Gwen, Eleanor, Amelia, Loretta, and Finnian Ray Mills, Jasmine Kaser. His sister, Linda (Gordie) Hassler, and their many loving nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his brothers and his sisters-in-laws: Fred (Helen) Mills, George "Bud" (Jo) Mills, Jerry (Patti) Mills. As I said, a wonderful man.
