Rev. Donald M. Van Dyke, age 74 of Cadillac, passed away November 8, 2024 at home with family by his side.
Donald was born January 22, 1950 in Pontiac, Michigan to Earle and Jane (Stanard) Van Dyke.
He was united in marriage to Carole Wolfe in Pontiac on June 4, 1973.
Don attended Princeton Seminary and was ordained in the United Presbyterian Church in 1973. He later joined the Evangelical Presbyterian Church and served congregations throughout the United States, including Pennsylvania, Louisiana, Ohio, and his home state of Michigan. After over forty years of ministry, he retired from Lake City EPC and enjoyed active membership at Living Word Ministries in Manton.
He pursued his love of music in his role as cantor for Zion Lutheran Church of Cadillac. Don is remembered for his joyful spirit and love to all he served. His deepest satisfaction was bringing joy and encouragement to all he met. His infectious sense of humor and disarming laugh made him a close friend and confidant to many.
He loved Elvis music, Michigan State football and hockey, chocolate, banana splits, and comedic movies such as The Pink Panther and A Christmas Story.
If there is anything he would say to us today, it would be to express our love to the Lord in service to each other and to keep singing.
Don is survived by his wife, Carole and daughters, Alicia (Benjamin) Pearson of Niskayuna, New York and Rachel Van Dyke of Cadillac and two granddaughters, Anna and Sophie Pearson.
He is also survived by two brothers, Earle Van Dyke and Arthur (Alice) Van Dyke, several nieces and nephews, and many friends.
Don was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, November 15, 2024 at Living Word Ministries in Manton with Pastor Marc Hicks officiating. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am until service time.
Burial will be in the Lake City Cemetery in Lake City.
