Richard Harry Byam

Richard Harry Byam, 85, of Houghton Lake passed away on Tuesday January 27, 2026 at Avon Park, Florida. 

Richard was born on December 23, 1940 in Owosso, Michigan to Roland and Helen (Hawkey) Byam. He grew up in Durand and graduated from Durand High School. Richard worked for General Motors for many years, and retired in 1989. He owned his Houghton Lake vacation home since 1970 and resided as his home in 1993 where he loved spending time and making memories with family at the lake.  Richard was a member of the Houghton Lake Eagles where he loved to play pool, mingle with friends and attend car shows. Richard was a car enthusiast owning his GTO and Trans Am Sports cars which he loved to share stories about. Richard enjoyed golfing, bowling, fishing, Nascar and was an avid Michigan State Spartan fan cheering on the Sparty’s! 

Surviving Mr. Byam are his three daughters, Carrie (Brad) Kramer of West Branch, Kimberly (Mike Lemke) Byam-Coy of Cape Coral, FL and Ronda (Brian) Chrzan of Lansing; his sweetheart of many years, Lynnda Burt of Swartz Creek, four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; brother, Wayne Byam of Corunna, sister, Pamela (Dave) Welch of West Branch; nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded by his parents.

Celebration of Life Services for Richard Harry Byam will be held at a later date. Interment will be in Freemont Cemetery in Bancroft, MI.  Christler Funeral Home. Houghton Lake Chapel is serving the family. Condolences can be sent to the family online at www.christler-holdship.com
