Richard L. Cherry

Richard Lee Cherry, 82, of  Prudenville passed away unexpectedly on Saturday July 2, 2022 at his home.

Richard was born on August 2, 1939 in Detroit, Michigan to John and Verna (Sternall) Cherry. After high school, he was a proud member of the Michigan Carpenter's Local 687 Union in Detroit, spending 50 years as a carpenter. Richard was married on May 21, 1966 in Windsor, Ontario to Karen Patricia Douglas. After spending many years in the Detroit area, Richard and Karen bought a cottage in Prudenville in 1988. They moved there permanently, following their retirement in 2000. Richard was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a very active man, spending his time camping, hiking, fishing, and being outdoors. Richard spent much of his free time volunteering at church, and socializing with his friends.

Surviving Richard are his loving wife of 56 years, Karen Patricia Cherry; Children, Kevin (Karine) Cherry, and Jennifer (Jeffery) Hager; Grandchildren, Korey, Karissa, and Kurtis Cherry, and Alison, Kristen and Jacob Hager; Four Great-Grandchildren, Sofiah, Ellie, Juliannah and Avery Cherry; Brothers, John (Janet) Cherry, Ronald (Jean) Cherry, and Sister, Carol (Rick) Profant; Richard was preceded in death by his parents, John and Verna Cherry. 

Funeral Services for Richard Lee Cherry will be conducted at the Houghton Lake United Methodist Church on Friday, July 8, 2022 at 11:00 am with visitation beginning at 10:00 am. Pastor Kevin Harbin will be officiating. 

Memorial contributions in memory of Richard are asked to be directed to Houghton Lake United Methodist Church.
