Richard C. Tabaka, age 91, of Houghton Lake passed away on Monday May 14, 2018 at King Nursing and Rehabilitation Community with his loving family by his side.
Richard was born on January 6, 1927 in Detroit, Michigan to John & Genevieve Tabaka. He served in the US Army during WWII and was very proud of his service to his country. He married Joan Bizek on September 15, 1951 in Detroit. The couple moved to Houghton Lake in 1984 from Canton. Richard was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, the Houghton Lake VFW Post 4034 and the American Legion Post 245. He enjoyed stamp collecting, hunting, fishing, gardening and spending time outdoors. He was an avid reader and a huge NASCAR fan.
Richard is survived by his daughters; Karen Tabaka of Plymouth and Susan (Tim) Hodges of Allen Park, grandchildren; Chester (Abbey) Hodges of Lansing and Amy (Jeremy) Ross of Ann Arbor and great granddaughter Addison. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Joan and ten siblings.
Visitation will take place at Christler Funeral Home-Prudenville Chapel on Friday May 18, 2018 from 2-8 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday May 19, 2018 at 10 am at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church with Father Rolando Silva officiating. Burial will be in Roscommon Township Cemetery, Houghton Lake. Christler Funeral Home-Prudenville Chapel is handling the arrangements.
