Rita Marie Smith, age 91, of Houghton Lake passed away on Tuesday April 6, 2021 at Crawford Continuing Care Center.

Rita was born on October 2, 1929 in Detroit, Michigan to Matthew and Julia Waltkas. She was married on October 2, 1993 in Houghton Lake to Jerome Smith. Rita was a former teller at NBD Bank in Prudenville. She attended Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church and enjoyed cooking and doing crafts.

Rita is survived by her loving husband of 27 years; Jerome "Jerry" Smith, daughter; Susan (Craig) Manske, daughter-in-law; Mary Beth Walton, step-children; Jill (Todd) Wendland, Leigh Tomlinson, Shelley Kondrat and Scott (Barbara) Smith, fourteen grandchildren and forty four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, son; William Walton and brother; Matthew Michaels.

Private family services will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to a charity of the donor's choice. Christler Funeral Home-Prudenville Chapel is serving the family. Condolences can be sent to the family online at www.christler-holdship.com
