Robert "Bob" James Bloomfield

Robert James Bloomfield of Lake City passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was 79 years old.

 
Bob was born on October 30, 1946 in Trenton, Michigan to Gerald Anthony and Elizabeth Gertrude (Clauss) Bloomfield. He was a graduate of St. Patrick’s High School in Wyandotte and later continued his education at Washtenaw Community College, where he received an associate degree in Radiologic Technology. He then proudly answered the call of duty in the United States Navy, serving as a Seabee.

On May 31, 1975, he entered into marriage with Kathleen Susan Heinel in Centerline, Michigan, at St. Clement’s Parish. Bob had a passion for serving others and always helping in any way that he could. He dedicated over 30 years of his career to Mercy Hospital in Cadillac, working as an X-ray and CT scan Technician, where his stubborn, strong-willed personality helped him excel in patient care.

Bob had many passions in life, such as walking and exploring the trails around his home, identifying wildlife, and sharing knowledge with anyone who would listen. He also was a captivating storyteller, instilling life lessons into those who were lucky enough to hear them. He loved fishing trips with his buddies to Canada as well as the annual deer camp gathering each year at the “property.” He loved photography, camping, was an avid reader, and would always do his best to be at Sunday Mass. Bob and Kathy were both certified as scuba divers later in life, which was a true joy for both of them. Time spent with his beautiful grandchildren was the most important thing to him in the latter part of his life. He was also a damn good cook, bringing his family together at the table every night and always sharing his trademark sausage with all those he loved. He will be greatly missed by all who called him husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, and “PA.” His legacy of love, faith, and laughter will live on.

He is survived by his loving wife, of nearly 51 years, Kathleen Bloomfield; children, Kaitlin Rose (David) Hobbs and James Bloomfield; grandchildren, Ava, Gabriel, Vivian, Isla, and Levi Hobbs; siblings, Tom (Jerilyn) Bloomfield, Theresa (Curt) Cole, Mary Ann (Larry) Schrock, Rose Marie (Dave) Bilek, and Peg (John) Babich; numerous nieces and nephews; and many other loving family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Elizabeth Bloomfield, and a brother, Gerald Anthony Bloomfield, Jr.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 17, 2026 at 5 p.m. with visitation held one hour prior at Young-Holdship Funeral Home.
