Robert "Bob" L. Hamilton Jr.

Marion - Robert Lee Hamilton, Jr., of Marion, passed away on Monday, June 22, 2026 at home with his loving family by his side. He was 73 years old.

Bob was born on May 7, 1953 at Mercy Hospital in Muskegon, Michigan to Robert Lee and Margaret Louise (Paprocki) Hamilton, Sr. After graduating from high school, Bob answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Navy. He proudly served during the Vietnam War era from 1972 until 1985 as a radioman aboard the USS Constellation. His years of military service were a source of great pride throughout his life. In 1985, Bob married the love of his life, Mary McCrimmon, and together they built a wonderful life in the Marion area. Following his military service, Bob pursued higher education with the same determination and dedication he brought to every aspect of his life. He earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Grand Valley State University before continuing his studies at Central Michigan University, where he received Master's Degrees in both Business Administration and Education. Education became Bob's lifelong passion and calling. He devoted countless years to helping others achieve their goals as Director of Marion Adult Education and Community Education programs. He also shared his knowledge and experience as an instructor at Baker College in Cadillac and Northwestern Michigan College in Traverse City. His commitment to learning and teaching positively impacted the lives of many students throughout the region. In addition to his educational career, Bob was a successful businessman, owning and operating the Middle Branch County Store from 1997 until 2005. He was also an accomplished writer, serving for several years as an editor in outdoors and nature for the Marion Press Newspaper and the Fruitport Area News. He wrote outdoor sports articles, events happenings in and around the area. Bob found great joy in the outdoors. An avid sportsman, he loved hunting, but fishing was truly his greatest passion. He belonged to several fishing clubs and cherished the friendships he built while sharing stories, experiences, and fishing tips with fellow enthusiasts. Whether casting a line, tending his garden, or spending time in nature, Bob felt most at home outdoors. He loved sharing adventures with his wife, especially their Wednesday night fishing tournaments together. The couple enjoyed going turkey hunting and deer scouting, even if only in their backwoods sitting in a tree stand. Annual trips to Cross in the Woods at Indian River were always a must, along with trips up to the U.P., if only just to cross the "Big Mac" bridge. Bob and Mary celebrated their wedding anniversary with traditional trips to Bronner's in Frankenmuth, most recently celebrating their 40th this past October. 

He was a dedicated member of the Lou B. Winsor Masonic Lodge #363 in Reed City, serving as Worshipful Master for three years, as well as a member of the Saladin Shrine. He was also a faithful member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Marion. Bob was a member of the Marion VFW and the family would like to thank Marc Robinson and his team at the Cadillac VA for all their compassionate care during dad's journey.   His commitment to service, leadership, and community reflected the values by which he lived. Bob's faithful dogs, Charlie and Buddy, were among his most cherished companions and brought him endless joy throughout the years. Above all else, Bob treasured his family. He found his greatest happiness in the time spent with his children and grandchildren, creating memories that will be cherished forever. 

Bob is survived by his loving wife, Mary McCrimmon; children, Heather Rousell of Muskegon and Elizabeth Albright of Holly; grandchildren, Austin Rousell, Bryan Rousell, Tyler Albright and Alexis Albright; siblings, Eugene (Kim) Hamilton of Grand Rapids, Wendy Schenck of Hudson, FL and Neal (Shona) Hamilton of Twin Lake; numerous nieces and nephews; life-long friend of 65 years, Tim Jablonski; and many other loving family members and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Margaret; sister, Joyce Hamilton; and a brother-in-law, Walt Schenck.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Pat Woodard, devoted friend and neighbor, especially over the last two years with his generous care towards Bob, as well as Advisacare Hospice and their team for their kindness during his end of life journey.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am on Friday, June 26, 2026 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Marion, with visitation one hour prior. Interment will take place at Middle Branch Township Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at Middle Branch Township Hall.   Memorial contributions may be directed to Advisacare Hospice, or the American Diabetes Association.
