Rosie Stella Meece, 90, of Houghton Lake passed away on Monday December 1, 2025 at home surrounded by her family.
Rosie was born on September 11, 1935 in War, West Virginia to Lucius and Meecie (Butcher) Phillips. Rosie grew up in West Virginia and later the Detroit area. She was married on July 25, 1953 in Belleville to Earl L. Meece. The couple moved to Houghton Lake from Lincoln Park in 1989. Rosie worked as a homemaker and mother for all of her life, and she worked as a greeter at Walmart in Houghton Lake. Rosie was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and White Shrine. She enjoyed crafting, crocheting, camping, and working in her yard and garden. Her special love was spending time with her family and cooking for family gatherings.
Surviving Mrs. Meece are her loving husband of 72 years, Earl L. Meece of Houghton Lake; daughter, Sue Quirk of Houghton Lake; two sons, David (Linda) Meece of Allen Park, and William Meece of Houghton Lake; 18 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; brother, Benjamin Phillips of Belleville; several nieces and nephews. Rosie was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers; son-in-law, John Quirk; and granddaughter, Jessica Quirk.
Funeral Services for Rosie Stella Meece will be conducted at 2:00pm Saturday December 6, 2025 from Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel with Lay Minister Sue Lazell officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday December 6, 2025 from 12:00pm to 2:00pm at Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel. Memorial contributions in memory of Rosie are asked to be directed to Shriners Children's Hospital, Attn: Shriners Children's Processing Center, PO Box 947765, Atlanta, GA 30394.
