Samuel Peer

Samuel Peer, age 85 of Lake City passed away  August 24, 2023 at the Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.

Sam was born May 4, 1938 in River Rouge to Robert GH and Viola (Johnson) Peer.

He served in the US Army after graduating from high school and became a plumber pipefitter.  He was a member of the Plumber and Steamfitters U.A. Local 85 of Saginaw, Michigan. He also held membership in the American Legion of Lake City Post 300, and the F&A.M. Lodge 408 of Lake City and a Charter member of the Lake City Eagles.

Sam was an avid golfer and a member of the Missaukee Golf Club and enjoyed time spent with his family.  He loved to spend winters in Ft. Myers, Florida at the Sun N Fun Park.  Sam had been a member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Lake City.

Sam is survived by his three children: Randy Stratton of Belleville, John (Juliana) Peer of  Allendale and Tina Hamel of Lake City. He will be missed by his grandchildren:  Kristina Stratton (Travis), Shaun Stratton, Nicholas (Caitlin) Taylor, Zachary Taylor, Caitlyn Peer, Adam (Sierra) Peer, Jacob Hacker, Travis (Katie) Hamel, Brandon (Natalie Tighe) Hamel and Jordan Hamel and eight great grandchildren.

Sam is also survived by a brother, Richard (Charlotte) Peer, a sister, Joy-el DuVall and two sisters in law, Rose Peer and Barb Peer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Robert GH Peer Jr, and Lucy Peer, Gerald Peer and Patricia Peer, Charles Peer and Edward Peer.

A graveside service will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 9, 2023 at the Lake City Cemetery with the Lake City American Legion Post 300 providing Military Honors .

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Lake City Eagles Lodge.
