Manton, Michigan- Sven "Leonard" Nelson, longtime resident of Manton, passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2019 at his home with his family by his side. He was 75.
Leonard was born on May 9, 1943 in Detroit, Michigan to Sven and Jeanette (Meekhof) Nelson. At a young age, he moved to Northern Michigan and attended Manton High School. He answered the call of duty serving in the U.S. Army. On April 4, 1968 he entered into marriage with the former Mary Louise Scripter at the Boon Baptist Church. Leonard enjoyed wood-working and in his spare time he carved fish decoys.
Leonard is survived by his loving wife over 50 years, Mary Nelson of Manton; children, Sheila Nichols and Stacey (Cliff Smith) Nelson; grandchildren, Brandon Nichols, Lauren (Nathan) Adams, Leonard Brigham, Daniel (Annika) Brigham and Mariah Brigham; great-grandchildren, Blakelynn, Aria, Alyanna and Eilish; two brothers, Terry (Gladys) Nelson and Rev. Ron (Lucy) Nelson; sister, Sharon Moomey; two sisters-in-law, Barb Nelson, Jamie Nelson; brother-in-law, Kay Silvers; special niece, Shannon (Richard) Dumont; special nephews, Jason Nelson and David Maes; and many other loving family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John Nelson and Donald Nelson; and two sisters, Wanda Maes and Karen Silvers.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at 2 p.m. with visitation held one hour prior at Victory Tabernacle Church in Cadillac. His brother, Rev. Ronald Nelson will preside.
