Thomas Borton Obituary

Thomas Dale Borton, 78, of  Houghton Lake passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday September 7, 2022.

Tom was born on April 21, 1944 in Flint, Michigan to J.C. Wilbur and Ida Mae (Currie) Borton. After high school, he started his career pushing a broom for GM, retiring in 1992 as a Skilled Tradesman and UAW newspaper editor. After he retired from GM, Tom completed his degree at Spring Arbor College and began working as a Substance Abuse Counselor. Tom was married to Emily Jean (Peterson) Borton on June 22, 1984 in Waterford, MI and they enjoyed their life together until her passing in 2021. Tom and Emily retired to the Houghton Lake area in 1995, and opened Land-N-Lake Realty shortly after. Tom was the founding member of the Houghton Lake Pickleball Club and played several times a week. Tom was very generous with his time and was an active member and supporter of the Houghton Lake Community. He would give the shirt off of his back to anyone who needed it, and his family came above and beyond anything else. He always loved riding motorcycles, traveling, listening to the blues, making stained glass, making and playing his wooden flutes, woodworking, and bow hunting.

Surviving Tom are his Children, James (Margaret) Borton, Amy (Tim) Ross, Teri (Kirby) Brendsel, and Tamara (Robert) Porras; Sister, Julie A (Gavin) Carnegie; Grandchildren, Arianna Ross, Adam Borton,  Stephanie Borton, Bridget Hite, and Anna Brendsel; Great-grandchildren, Alexya, David, Ava, and Aries; Nieces, Kelly, Kerry, and Michon; Nephews, Josh, Matthew, Mike and Mark. Tom was preceded in death by his parents; His loving wife, Emily Jean Borton; Son, Thomas (Tommy) Borton, and Sister, Sharon Barcey.

Funeral Services for Thomas Dale Borton will be held at The Houghton Lake Wesleyan Church on Tuesday, September 13. 2022 at 11:00 am with Rev. Bryan Thompson officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday September 12, 2022 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Christler Funeral Home - Prudenville Chapel. Interment will be in Denton Township Cemetery.  Memorial contributions in memory of Tom are asked to be directed to his family in honor of his life.
