Thomas "Tom" Talaga Obituary

Cadillac - Thomas Lee Talaga, of Cadillac passed away unexpectedly at home on Tuesday, March 17, 2026. He was 68.

Tom was born on June 8, 1957, in Garden City, Michigan to Eugene and Betty (Guenther) Talaga.  He and his brother grew up and attended school downstate and following the death of their mother at a young age, Tom entered the workforce.  He began a hardworking career in cement work and on June 11, 1988, Tom entered into marriage with the former Carol M. Petersen.  Looking for a better life for their young family and the addition of twin boys and a daughter, the couple moved to northern Michigan in 1994.

Tom spent some time working at Cadillac's renewable energy plant before health concerns and a stroke forced him into an early retirement. Even after facing some hardship and sickness Tom did not want to sit idle or slow down.  He was the perpetual handyman and Mr. Fix-It.  He challenged himself to keep moving and find his next task to conquer.  Tom was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who loved spending time with his family and especially his grandkids.  He created many memories navigating Lake Cadillac as captain of his pontoon whether fishing or just out cruising.  Tom will be remember for his enjoyment of the outdoors, hunting, fishing and boating, but most notably for his loving and caring nature.

Tom is survived by his wife of over 37 years, Carol Talaga of Cadillac; his three children, Thomas Talaga, Bill (Amanda) Talaga and Kelly (Matthew) Keel, all of Cadillac; three beloved grandchildren, Tehlor, Miya and Benjamin; his brother, Eugene Talaga of Garden City; several nieces and nephews, as well as many other loving family members and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Per his wishes cremation has taken place and a private celebration of life will take place in warmer weather.  Condolences and memories may be shared with the family online at www.Hitesman-Holdship.com   The family is being served by the Hitesman-Holdship Funeral Home.
