Walter Skonieczny Obituary

Walter J. Skonieczny, age 94, of Prudenville, Michigan, passed away on April 11, 2026.

He was born in 1931 to William and Mary ( Matuszewski) Skonieczny. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, and will be remembered for his kindness, strength, and generosity. 

Walter was married to Sandra Marshall on September 28, 1954, in Detroit, Michigan. He served in the US Army during the Korean War.

Walter’s career was spent with Sun Oil Company, maintaining the oil fields in the West Branch, Michigan area.  He had a deep love for the outdoors, and he found joy in fishing, hunting, and helping his neighbors. Those who knew him will always remember his wisdom, advice, humor, and generosity.

Walter is survived by his children, Larry (Janet) Skonieczny, Gary (Lisa) Skonieczny, Donna Skonieczny, Paul Skonieczny, and Paula Jordan; 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.  He was predeceased by his wife of 70 years, Sandra Skonieczny, and his daughter Sharon Wagar. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on April 16, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, Prudenville, Michigan. Visitation will take place at the church on Thursday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will take place at the Denton Township Cemetery in Prudenville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association at www.heart.org or the American Diabetes Association at www.diabetes.org.
