Wayne Schoeppach Obituary

Wayne Sidney Schoeppach Jr., 77, of Higgins Lake went home to be with Jesus on Thursday, December 30, 2021 with his loving family by his side.

Wayne was born on June 18, 1944 in Columbus, MS to Wayne and Ruth (Sweet) Schoeppach. As a military family, they moved around a bit before settling in Mt. Morris, Michigan, where he graduated from Mt. Morris High School, Class of 1962. He enlisted into the US Navy and served on a Destroyer as a Fire Control Technician from 1963-1966 patrolling the waters of the Mediterranean.  When his service was complete, he married the love of his life Jill (Rockwell) Schoeppach and graduated from Western Michigan University class of 1971, with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.  He worked at Consumer’s Power (CMS Energy) as a Metering Technician for 31 years. Wayne wore many hats over the years, Cub Scout leader, AYSO Soccer Coach, and he helped create the Western High School Panther Bowl Soccer Field.  He was a tinkerer - he liked to figure out how things worked and fix them wherever possible. His true passions were serving the Lord, being a loving husband, devoted father and cherished grandpa.

In his retirement, Wayne enjoyed serving with friends in the US Coast Guard Auxiliary, patrolling the Higgins and Houghton Lake area.  He loved the outdoors, and was always happy to spend time on the water or in the woods.  He was a member of the Houghton Lake United Methodist Church, where he served as a video media tech and worked to get the facilities approved for the Preschool program.

Surviving Wayne are his daughter, Dawn (Rob) Luce of Union Grove, WI; son, Todd (Marie) Schoeppach of Sturtevant, WI; three grandchildren, Michael Luce, Matthew Luce, and Peter Schoeppach; brother, Kim (Nancy) Schoeppach of Metamora, MI. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Jill.

Memorial Services for Wayne and his wife, Jill Schoeppach will be conducted on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at the Houghton Lake United Methodist Church. The service will begin at 11:30am, with Pastor Kevin Harbin presiding. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Lyon Township.
