William Lewis Ensing, 86, of Houghton Lake passed away on Sunday February 8, 2026 at King Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Houghton Lake.
William was born on June 5, 1939 in Lake City, Michigan to John and Ruby(Dolly) Ensing. He grew up in the Houghton Lake and Merritt areas where he spent his whole life. William was married on January 24, 1959 in Houghton Lake to Irene E. Spink, who preceded William in death. He was a farmer, tree farmer, and worked as a pulp wood cutter throughout the years. William was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, gardening, woodworking, and painting. He loved spending time with his family.
Surviving Mr. Ensing are his four daughters, Anita (Bernie) Hazelton of Grayling, Phyllis Hoerauf of Houghton Lake, Lois (Gary) Serviss of Houghton Lake, and Heidi (Dennis) Travelbee of Lake City; four sons, Erwin (Pat) Ensing of Virginia Beach, VA, Russ (Anita) Ensing of Merritt, William Ensing of Cleveland, TN, and Andy Ensing of Merritt; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and one great great grandson; Sister Mary(Virgil) Wilson of Merritt; several nieces and nephews. William was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Irene E. Ensing; two grandsons, Neal Hoerauf, and Cody Hazelton; and eleven siblings.
A Celebration of Life Service for William Lewis Ensing will be conducted in the spring. Memorial contributions in memory of William are asked to be directed to the Missaukee County Humane Society or the Roscommon County Animal Shelter.
