Winifred McNulty Obituary

Lake City - Winifred "Winnie" McNulty, of Lake City, passed peacefully at Curry House in Cadillac on March 6th, one day shy of her 96th birthday.

Winnie was born to the late Frank and Stella (Korte) Schneider on March 7th, 1929, in Detroit, Michigan. Winnie was the second youngest of 8 children all of whom are now deceased. She graduated from St. Alphonsus High School in Detroit in 1947 at which time she started her lifelong career at the Ford Motor Company Rouge complex in Dearborn, MI. Winnie met Ernest (Ernie) Zelle while living at her birth home on Strathmoor in Detroit.  They married in 1949 and continued living in Detroit until Ernie passed in 1977 at which time she moved to Trenton. Seven years later, she married Eugene (Gene) McNulty, who she met at the K of C in Livonia. Winnie retired from Ford in 1984. Two years later, Winnie and Gene moved to Lake City where five of her siblings had also retired. Winnie enjoyed golfing, bowling, traveling, crafting, reading, playing cards and trips to the casino. Every Saturday, it was tradition to have coneys with family and friends at The Town Pump in Lake City where Winnie always reserved a table. Winnie and her sisters started a yearly Schneider reunion tradition in 1986. It was always held the first weekend in August and the tradition lasted over 20 years.

Winnie was a devout catholic and attended St. Stephen Catholic Church where she counted collections on Sundays until poor health made it too difficult. Gene passed in 2018 which resulted in Winnie relying on her family and closest neighbors to continue living alone until that was no longer possible and she moved to Curry House. She had a few wonderful months there until her failing health took its toll. While Winnie did not have biological children of her own, she did have 10 godchildren and was “Mom” to many of her nieces and nephews and some close friends. Winnie will be remembered for annually sending birthday, anniversary and holiday cards to every one of her siblings, their offspring and her best friends.

Winnie was preceded in death by her parents and all her siblings, Leo (Mary) Schneider, Olive (Neil) Bellfy, Geri (Bud) Ochs, Elenor (Ray) Kenny, Bob (Flo) Schneider, Don (Marilyn) Schneider, Barb (Bob) Clemens. She is survived by her brother-in-law, Bob Clemens, and many nieces, nephews and all their offspring.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hospice of Michigan located in Cadillac (www.hom.org) who were instrumental in keeping Winnie comfortable as she transitioned.

Visitation will take place on Friday, March 21, 2025, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, with a recitation of the rosary at 6:30pm at the Young-Holdship Funeral Home. A Memorial Mass will follow on Saturday, March 22, 2025 beginning at 11am at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Lake City.
