Florence M. Altemus, age 106, of Houghton Lake passed away on Monday June 26, 2017 at the Grand Traverse Pavilions in Traverse City.

Florence was born on April 9, 1911 in Twining, Michigan to Leo & Anna Daniels. She married William Altemus in 1940 in Detroit, Michigan. Florence worked for Roux Company in California for many years where she worked as a licensed beautician and had the pleasure of doing many movie stars hair. She later moved to Farmington where she worked as a RN for Northville State Hospital. She moved to Houghton Lake in 1970 from Farmington and opened her own beauty salon called Florence's Beauty Shop for many years before retiring. 

Florence is survived by a son and her grandchildren, special friends George (Florence) Turney of Shelby Township. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband William in 1943, daughter; Betty Marie in 1989, brothers; Rudolph and Joe and sister; Ann. 

A prayer service is scheduled for Friday June 30, 2017 at Christler Funeral Home-Prudenville Chapel at 1 pm with Rev. William Winter officiating. Visitation will take place on Friday June 30 at the funeral home from 12 pm until the time of the service. Burial will be in Cedar Valley Cemetery in Twinning.
