Traverse City - Harold "Chub" James Brunk Sr., longtime resident of Cadillac passed away Friday, April 14, 2017 at Munson Medical Center. He was 80.
Harold was born on March 4, 1937, in Custer, MI, to parents Frank E. and Dorothy E. (Betka) Brunk. Harold was born into a large family, eventually being joined by eight siblings. On June 14, 1958 he entered into marriage with the former Betty Hogenson in Ludington MI, who preceded him in death at a young age due to cancer. "Chub", as he was known by most, was very mechanical and gifted with just about anything with moving parts. He enjoyed his hobby farm near McBain where he raised his family and spent hours tending to the animals and anything else that needed attention. In later years he found a new passion for motorcycles and enjoyed the open road touring on his Goldwing; which he had rebuilt himself.
Chub is survived by his son, Harold (Yvonne) Brunk, Jr. of Boon, his daughter, Gaillynn (Ron) Draur of McBain, his nephew he cherished as a son, Joe Brunk of Rothbury, MI; eleven grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; one sister; as well as his fiancée, Sandy Eaton of Cadillac and her daughter Darlene (Darrin) Briggs of Mesick, and her son Eric Eaton of Cadillac; as well as many other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings.
Per his request cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held at a later date. Chub will eventually be laid to rest next to his wife, Betty at Richland Township Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice of Michigan.
