Doyle Devere Nye

Doyle Devere Nye, age 90 of Cadillac, (formerly of Flint and Lake City) passed away May 5, 2015 at Curry House in Cadillac.

He was born in Cadillac on June 4, 1924 to Amos and Jennie (Swanson) Nye.
On June 22, 1947 he married the former Frances Marie Patterson in Lake City. She preceded him in death in 2001 after more than fifty four years of marriage.

Doyle was a US Army veteran serving in five campaigns during WWII. Doyle was employed at General Motors in Flint for 32 years and moved to Lake City in 1981 after retiring.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lake City, Buick Local 599, the American Legion Post #300 in Lake City and a life member of the VFW Post #7806 of Manton and the Cadillac Elks Lodge #690. He and Fran liked to travel. They attended Army Reunions in Texas and spent sixteen years of winters in Orange Beach, Alabama.

Doyle is survived by his companion, Marie Koorstra, daughters: Christine (Kenneth) Bloch of Toledo, OH, Wanda (Daniel) Smithingell of Davison, grandchildren: Timothy (Krista) Nelson of Canton, Caroline (Kent) Milyard of Hilliard OH, Thomas (Fiancee’ Krista) Nelson of Flushing, Anthony Bloch of Midland and great grandchildren Zachary and Alexander Nelson of Canton. He is also survived by a sister Shirley (Douglas) Bassett of Grand Rapids, several nieces and nephews and many special friends.

Many thanks are expressed to Pastor Jan Jasperse, the caregivers at Curry House and Hospice of Michigan.

Visitation will be Friday, May 8, 2015 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Young Funeral Home in Lake City.

A funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at the Lake City First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jan Jasperse officiating.

Graveside military honors will be conducted by the Lake City Legion Post #300 at the Lake City Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Lake City First Presbyterian Church.
