John Jacob "Jack" Hinz, 88, of Prudenville passed away on Sunday August 20, 2017 at home with his loving family by his side.
Jack was born on July 9, 1929 in Detroit, Michigan to John and Ida (Schaeffer) Hinz. Jack grew up and attended school in Detroit. He served as a PFC in the Army during the Korean War. On September 30, 1950 in Detroit, Jack was married to Dolores M. Riendeau. He worked as a Model Maker at the GM Tech Center until his retirement. The couple moved from Harrison Township to Prudenville twenty two years ago. Jack was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, Huron Pointe Yacht Club, and the Houghton Lake Moose Lodge. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, and fishing. Jack was also an avid wood carver.
Surviving Mr. Hinz are his loving wife of almost 67 years, Dolores M. Hinz of Prudenville; two daughters, Jan (John) Garvin of Prudenville, and Lori (Mike) McNally of Harrison Township; son, Jeff (Lisa) Hinz of Harrison Township; son-in-law, Michael Stanosheck of Mt. Clemens; eight grandchildren; one great grandchild; sister, Anna May Godin of St. Clair Shores; several nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Pamela Stanosheck; son, John J Hinz, III; two brothers; and four sisters.
Mass of Christian Burial for John Jacob Hinz will be conducted at 11:00 am Thursday August 24, 2017 from Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church with Fr. Bernard Tyler officiating. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton Township. Visitation will be held on Wednesday August 23, 2017 from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Christler Funeral Home, Prudenville Chapel.
