Ruth V. Tessler

Ruth V. Tessler, age 85 of Lake City passed away, Friday, November 6, 2015 at Autumnwood of McBain.

Ruth was born in Detroit, the daughter of James and Julia (Misiak) Samp. She married August (Gus) Tessler Jr. January 8, 1941 in Detroit.

Ruth raised her family in the Detroit area and was employed as a dental assistant for twenty two years before moving to Lake City in 1973.

She enjoyed gardening and played golf in a women’s league at the Missaukee Golf Course in Lake City.
She and Gus also enjoyed several years of wintering in Texas. Ruth loved to play with her grandchildren.

Ruth was a member of the Daughters of Isabella and a longtime member of St. Stephen Catholic Church in Lake City where she belonged to the CCW; the women’s organization of the church.

Ruth was well known for cooking Polish dinners and was awarded several ribbons throughout the years for her delicious Polish dill pickles and banana nut bread. She also enjoyed cooking in St. Stephen’s kitchen, over the years, for a host of dinners and community meals.

Ruth is survived by her loving husband, August (Gus), a son Allen Tessler of Lake City and son in law Gary (Sally) McGaw of Glen Rose, TX, two grandchildren Ryan (Shelly) McGaw of Plantation, TX and Kevin (Heather) McGaw of Arlington, TX and two great granddaughters; Riley and Shelby Ray.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Jeannie McGaw, two brothers, Grover and Verne and four sisters, Beatrice, June, Ethel and Vivian.

A funeral mass will be held 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 13, 2015 at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Lake City with Rev. Bryan Medlin officiating.

Visitation will be on Thursday, November 12, 2015 at the Young Funeral Home from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm, with a Prayer Service beginning at 5:00 pm.

Burial will take place at the Old Jennings Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the CCW of St. Stephen Catholic Church.
